Background and industry experience

Paul joined Fisher German in February 2016 and he works to strengthen and build the Building Surveying team.

Paul started his career in the construction industry and became a time served carpenter and joiner before moving on to train in construction site management. A degree in building surveying at the University of Reading followed in the early 1990s. On graduation, Paul joined the National Trust and was fortunate to work and learn on the continuing repair of some of the finest houses and estates in the Midlands region. Paul is accredited in conservation by the RICS.

Paul left the National Trust in 2002 to set up his own practice specialising in the conservation of listed buildings, defect analysis and dilapidations work.

Paul cites some of his more interesting work as the survey of timber framed buildings in Port Stanley historic dockyard for the Falklands Islands government. Paul has been able to combine the work of his early career with his professional qualification and often works as an expert witness on building disputes and dilapidation's cases where listed buildings and workmanship issues are to the fore.

Outside of work Paul, is undertaking a long term repair project on a barn in the Dordogne region. He is a keen cyclist and enjoys all things with two wheels.

What has been your favourite project and why?
Working on Stanley Historic Dockyard in the Falkland Islands because it was a unique opportunity to see how history, politics and the environment collide so close to the Antarctic.

Most admired, non-property brand?
Space X, Love him or loathe him, Elon Musk puts it all on the line to get things done.
