Background and industry experience

John plays an active role in the Rural and Energy Consultancy Sector, in particular being responsible for the development of the advice provided Fisher German in respect of Compulsory Purchase Procedure and Compensation. As Office Partner, John is responsible for the Ashby office. John's client work focuses on retained corporate clients in the minerals and energy sectors, involving management of non-operational land and strategic advice on further acquisition for operational purposes. John also provides Rural Consultancy advice to an number of private farming clients. A large part of his work relates to Compulsory Purchase Advice, acting for affected landowners on schemes such as the M6 Toll, A453, West Coast Mainline widening, A50 Road Improvement and, not least, now both phases of HS2. John has been in the industry for over nearly 20 years, originally with John German, then Germans and now Fisher German and his specialist knowledge in this arena enables him to give leading and innovative advice to his clients. Having qualified at the Reading University, John moved to the business in 1998 and lives in South Derbyshire with his wife and two children. He enjoys all aspects of rural pursuits and sport generally.

Why did you join Fisher German?
I had done work experience there whilst studying at Reading University. I like the people and type of work.

What has been your favourite project and why?
Dealing with Acquisition of Land for Large Energy Companies to develop Generating assets. I enjoy the challenge of trying to strike a deal with potentially unwilling sellers.

Most admired, non-property brand?
Harry Ferguson Tractors

Top pastime?
Swimming, cycling and recently taken up match ploughing with a vintage tractor.

Best holiday destination?
South of France

One item to take to a desert island?
A boat
