On Friday May 24, the Athletic Ground in Richmond, London, witnessed an exhilarating battle of rugby and netball teams, all competing for a great cause in the Surveyor 7’s Tournament, a thrilling event that brings together surveying companies from across the UK.
The Surveyor 7’s Tournament is one of the year's largest property charity sporting events. It’s a national tournament that puts well-known surveying firms against each other. Over the years, it has become a platform for teamwork, and sportsmanship and in more recent years has raised money for The OddBalls and The Elifar Foundations.
Two teams took to the field to represent Fisher German. In 2023 the Fisher German rugby team emerged as plate winners; this year they faced stiff competition but still made their way to the semi-finals.
Our rugby team, put together by Ollie Rudd, one of our graduate surveyors, won their first match against Carter Jonas but lost their second match against Colliers. Despite the mixed results, they qualified for the plate quarterfinals where we put up a strong performance and advanced to the semi-finals where they gave their all but were eventually knocked out. The rugby team included: Harry Keam, Alex Morrison, Archie Read, Bill Davies, Callum Wooff, Gabriel Davies, Henry Lankfer, Jack Dutton, Matthew Handford, Nick Price, Marcus Bruce and Sam Peters.
One of our senior associates, Harry Keam, who is based at our London office, said: “I love rugby and thoroughly enjoyed playing in the 7’s tournament. For me, it is not just about playing the game and networking colleagues from our other offices and outside the business but it’s also a chance to reunite with university friends. It was great watching the Fisher German netball team do so well and we enjoyed supporting them from the sidelines.”
Senior Associate, Olivia Yates from our Worcester office organised the ladies’ netball team which ran alongside Rugby 7’s. The team included Olivia, Debbie Kenney, Sarah Connell, Katie Lea, Hattie Cole, Ella White, Izzy Ferguson, Ellie Savage, and Beth Davies.
The team was placed in group one alongside opponents we had not faced previously; Allsop LLP, Colliers and Dalcour Maclaren. Our first match against Dalcour Maclaren was intense, with both teams evenly matched but we emerged victorious with a 6-5 score.
Against Allsop, the team dominated with a 23-2 win and in the Colliers game, they secured a 19-5 victory. They continued their winning streak, defeating Lambert Smith Hampton and JLL in the quarterfinals and semi-finals, respectively and unexpectedly, they found themselves in the final against Turner and Townsend. Despite tired legs and a tough opponent, they made it a challenging match. Turner and Townsend ultimately clinched victory with a score of 10-15.
Olivia said: “Being runners up was a tremendous team effort. Throughout the day our teams displayed high standards of play and we all thoroughly enjoyed taking part, getting to know each other as well as meeting other teams. The Surveyor Sevens Tournament isn’t just about rugby and netball, it’s about camaraderie, competition, and supporting worthy causes. Not to mention the support of others, not necessarily taking part, but willing to stand on the sidelines and cheer both teams on…well into the evening for the netball!”.
