On 23 June, Abbie, who works in our valuations team in Ashby, joined the lively crowd at the 6th Loughborough Colour Run. The event at Charnwood College promised a 5km route filled with laughter, camaraderie, and vibrant hues. Abbie wasn’t alone, her colleagues Jo, Gabby, and Clare rallied alongside her, eager to support a cause close to their hearts.
As they jogged, walked, and danced through the picturesque college grounds, Abbie and her team encountered inflatable obstacles that added an extra layer of fun. But it was the bursts of coloured powder paint that truly transformed the day. By the finish line, they wore a kaleidoscope of colours, a real testament to their determination and spirit.
The Loughborough Colour Run wasn’t just about fun; it was a powerful fundraiser for Living Without Abuse (LWA), a local charity supporting victims of domestic and sexual abuse across Leicestershire, Leicester, and Rutland. The initial goal was £1,000, but the community’s generosity shattered expectations and the final tally reached an impressive £1,525.
Abbie’s team had set their sights on raising £250, but their commitment propelled them to surpass that target, raising a remarkable £375. Abbie spoke candidly about her journey: “Many are hesitant to share their stories but LWA’s support transformed my life, giving me the confidence I have today.”
Abbie added: “Domestic abuse isn’t limited to physical harm—it can be emotional, mental, verbal, or financial. By participating in the Colour Run, I wanted to raise awareness and dismantle the stigma surrounding domestic violence. People often believe it won’t happen to them, but it’s a gradual process and it’s not until you are out of a situation and look back that you realise how wrong things were.”
LWA played a pivotal role in Abbie’s recovery and the monies raised will help others to hopefully do the same. Abbie hopes that by sharing her experiences, she can encourage others to break their silence and seek support.
Jo added: “We had great fun, and it was wonderful to know we had done something for a worthy cause. Abbie’s determination to take part in the Colour Run was contagious. We all knew it was more than just a fun event – it was a chance to raise awareness for those affected by domestic violence and her courage has inspired us all.”
Clare, a property manager in our rural property management team, said: “Abbie’s commitment reminded us of why we wanted to support her, raising awareness and breaking the silence is so important. She is a true champion!”
