Background and industry experience
Tom head's up the Valuation team in London which has a diverse client and specialism range with the majority of the work generated from London and the South East. The London Valuation team cover all commercial and residential sectors for loan security, financial reporting, corporate planning, taxation and specialist purposes including leasehold enfranchisement and planning viability.Since starting as a graduate in Leeds in 2002, Tom's formative years were with Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE. From this corporate background Tom has a wide valuation skillset with experience across shopping centres, large multi-let assets and portfolios. He is recognised as an expert in airport related assets and has experience of other high value specialist assets such as film studios.
Tom became an LLP Member of Matthews & Goodman in February 2020, wanting to get involved with running a business - drawing on his corporate experience and entrepreneurial outlook. This came in spades with the advent of the pandemic a month later. Tom's belief is that the subsequent merger with Fisher German provides a fantastic platform to evolve valuation services, creating efficiencies and diversifying our output.
Tom started out as an engineer and has a Masters in Engineering from the University of Sheffield, with working life taking him into the water industry and heavy industry, including a stint working as a Shift Manager in an Ironworks. However, he's never looked back from his postgrad in real estate at Sheffield Hallam.
About me
When did you join Fisher German?
June 2022 as a result of the merger with Matthews & Goodman.
Why did you join Fisher German?
The merger provided an opportunity for both partnerships to evolve into a more diverse and stronger geographic and professional base.
What has been your favourite project and why?
Project Sunflower, the seeding of the Mileway portfolio. The coming together of Blackstone, M7 and the debt finance of this enterprise. Ran it, coordinated the team, delivered the valuation and report. Supremely hard work, but being up to the challenge and delivering was immensely rewarding.
Most admired, non-property brand?
Brompton - British innovation and engineering at its best... and the reliable element of my commute.
Top pastime?
Water polo and, when time allows, tinkering with my 1991 Peugeot 205 GTI... with a spot of shooting on the side when season favours.
Best holiday destination?
Western Cape, SA
One item to take to a desert island?
Concept of being on a desert island is quite frightening, was I banished or abandoned? The item I would take is the reserve and determination of Shackleton to get home whole and well.
Who would you like to be stranded in a lift with?
Boutros Boutros-Ghali - great name and peace maker.
Favourite film?
Can provide selection of my top 10: The Third Man, Reservoir Dogs, Howl's Moving Castle.
