Background and industry experience

Jo works within the Utilities & Infrastructure sector, providing mapping support for these teams but also supporting the whole business with GIS services. Jo began life at Fisher German as the single GIS contact for Ashby and now leads a full team servicing all offices. She has worked to ensure that Professionalism and Consistency in GIS and mapping are key. Jo has developed innovative ways of working such as using a new Collector app in the field and automating salutations for large mail merges, in turn helping the company grow by providing new services to clients.

Coming from a design background, Jo has worked in GIS for over 10 years including five years working for Astrium and also a year at National Grid within their mapping team. In her six years at Fisher German, she has worked on many major projects, producing all kinds of digital and paper plans, setting up complex databases for recording ownership information along with setting up interactive mapping for clients and colleagues. Being part of the Ordnance Survey Partnership support team, Jo is also the person to contact if you require any Ordnance Survey background data.

Jo also arranges charity events within the Action Ashby team raising money towards the local chosen charity of the year on behalf of the company. Jo spends a lot of her spare time testing her DIY skills on renovating her house in Hinckley. She also plays the guitar and piano (a little!) and sings in a band. Trying to keep active, swimming and pilates are fitted in when there is time and Jo always makes time to share a meal or a few drinks, catching up with family and friends.

About me

What year did you start your job?
2012

Why did you join Fisher German?
Job security plus I wanted to work in a different area of GIS and grow this area of work within the company.

What has been your favourite project and why?
Although at times I hated it, working on the North West Coast Connection project for National grid proved to be very interesting, varied and challenging. It was also the first major project I had worked on from the beginning so was good to be in charge of the GIS set up.

Top pastime?
Singing or enjoying a nice meal out.

Best holiday destination?
Essaouira in Morroco or Thailand- the food is amazing in both places!
