Smithills Estate Woodland Trust 01

We are thrilled to announce that our north west rural property management team has secured a key contract to manage the Woodland Trust’s largest estate in England following a competitive three-month tender process.

This achievement builds on our successful management of land owned by the National Forest in Leicestershire over the past two years.

We have been awarded a three-year contract, which will be managed by our Knutsford office, to conduct the estate management of the 1700-acre Smithills Estate, located northwest of Bolton in Greater Manchester.

This diverse estate consists of a mix of woodland, farmland, grassland, ravines and peat bogs, all carefully conserved by the Woodland Trust to balance wildlife encouragement and sustainable farming.

Our responsibilities will include managing the estate’s property portfolio including its 12 farming tenancies on-site, advising on diversification opportunities, regular asset reviews, and more.

Associate Partner, Matthew Burton, will be leading on the contract, he said: “This is the first time we’ll be working on an estate managed by the Woodland Trust, and we’re really looking forward to helping the estate more efficiently manage its property while allowing it to focus on preserving the wonderful natural environment.

“Our previous experience in managing land owned by the National Forest impressed us during the tender process and helped persuade the Woodland Trust to award us the contract.

“We have got to work straight away on site, and we hope this will be the start of working on further sites with the Woodland Trust in years to come.”
