A team from our Liverpool, Manchester and Knutsford offices swapped property for paddles last week and rowed to victory along the Mersey to win the 11th annual Liverpool Waters Dragon Boat race at Princes Dock.
Partner David Laws and graduates Marcus Baumber and Sam Guest from our Manchester office were joined by partner Simon Geary from our Knutsford office and Surveyor, Kaitlyn Ward and graduates, Chloe Dowd, Adam Fleming and Erica Saxon from our Liverpool office.
The team of dragon boat rowers helped to raise money in aid of Claire House Children’s Hospice which helps children in and around Liverpool who are seriously or terminally ill live as good a life as they can while providing vital emotional support to their families.
Sharing a boat with commercial agency Avison Young, our team won three out of three heats along the 200m course and secured the fastest time of the day to qualify for the semi-finals. There, they faced off against event hosts and major port group Peel, one of our retained clients, and pipped them at the line in a photo finish.
The final was a three-way race between Fisher German, Colliers, and Equans, and this race was even closer where we found to have won by just a quarter of a second after video footage needed to be consulted. While the event was a great day of competition, it raised over £20,000 for Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Partner David Laws said: “The Liverpool Waters Dragon Boat Race is always a fantastic event, and we were delighted to join other businesses in Liverpool for a day of friendly competition and fundraising. We gave it our all and it was testament to the team’s efforts that we were able to come away with the trophy this year.
“And while competing was a lot of fun, this event is all about raising funds for Claire House Children’s Hospice which provides amazing pastoral care for young children and their families in Liverpool and the Wirral. We were so pleased to be part of such a wonderful event and we were delighted to have been able to contribute towards the Hospice's much needed funding. We’d also like to thank Peel for once again putting on such a brilliant event. We’re looking forward to defending our title next year!”
